Highly selective colleges use AP Exam scores in their admissions decisions. For example, the average Harvard admit took 6 exams with a 4.7 (out of 5) average score before applying. The average non-acceptance took 5 exams with a 4.3 average score.

Scores matter for college credit. A 3 (out of 5) is required for college credit; on average, only 60% of students earn a 3 or better.
